Tanzania Communal Shamba Tamu Tamu Honey Process
Born and raised in Tanzania, Keremba Warioba was working abroad when the call of home brought him back in 2017 to found Communal Shamba. Since then, his passion project has grown into a community-driven operation in the Mbeya region, where he and his team cultivate coffee from their own farms—Umoja and Kipenzi—while also partnering with local groups to bring the best of Tanzanian coffee to the world.
The Tamu Tamu Honey lot comes from Keremba’s own Umoja and Kipenzi farms, where he focuses on meticulous post-harvest processing to craft exceptional coffees. This honey-processed offering captures everything that Communal Shamba stands for—innovation, quality, and community.
The honey process itself is a unique method that bridges the gap between washed and natural processing. After depulping, a sticky layer of mucilage (known as "honey" in the industry) remains around the bean. This layer slows the drying process, allowing for gentle fermentation that intensifies the coffee’s natural sweetness and complexity. The result is a syrupy-sweet cup with notes of caramel, cola, and strawberry—a true taste of Tanzania.
