Rwanda Nyampinga Women's Cooperative - Nestled at altitude on the southeastern edge of the East African Rift, Rwanda is famously known as the "Land of a Thousand Hills." Perched atop one of these picturesque hills in southern Rwanda lies the Nyampinga Women’s Cooperative. Established in 2014, the Nyampinga Women’s Cooperative holds a special place as one of Sisters Coffee’s closest producer relationships. Their inaugural export to the States in 2015 marked the beginning of our Roaster Series offerings, and since then, their coffee has been a cornerstone of our annual selections.

The growth of Nyampinga since its inception has been remarkable. Year after year, this women-run cooperative maintains its unwavering commitment to quality, meticulously refining its processing techniques while expanding its membership, which now stands at two hundred and thirty-five strong. The women of Nyampinga own two coffee plots adjacent to their washing station, where they collaborate with agronomists to implement sound agronomic practices, ensuring the vitality and productivity of their coffee trees. Additionally, they welcome coffee cherries from local community members residing in the vicinity of the washing station.

Beyond its role in coffee production, Nyampinga serves as a catalyst for community development, providing essential healthcare services to its members and educational opportunities for their children. Partnering with Sustainable Growers, a sister company to Sustainable Harvest based in Portland, Oregon, Nyampinga has emerged as a model cooperative in Rwanda. It has garnered recognition as a prototype for the Rwandan government's efforts to support and replicate successful cooperative models across the country.

We are thrilled to reintroduce Nyampinga’s coffee into our lineup for the ninth consecutive year. This year’s offering boasts a delightful profile characterized by its sweetness and cleanliness, accompanied by distinct notes of apricot, caramel, golden raisin, mandarin and cinnamon.
